About Summer Panadd

Panadda Tempaiboonkul, also known as Summer Panadd (b. 1991), is a Thai illustration artist and curator whose work focuses on utilizing art and storytelling to communicate complex social issues to the public. Raised in a multicultural Teochew Min and Hakka family in Bangkok, her exposure to diverse cultures fostered an early interest in cultural diversity and community rights. With a background in Thai studies and community-based tourism, Summer's art explores the intersection of traditional folklore, animism, and contemporary culture across Asia, particularly focusing on the impacts of Thailand's monocultural policies on minority cultures.

Her notable project, "Thai Political Tarot," features a tarot deck that tells the stories of local activists fighting systemic injustice, highlighting the resilience of indigenous communities and their relationship with the environment. The project has gained significant attention, leading to features in prominent Thai media and exhibitions in the UK.

Summer has collaborated with human rights organizations like Amnesty International Thailand, creating works that blend art, activism, and advocacy. She is currently a research student in the International Master Program in Cultural and Creative Industries at the National University of the Arts, focusing on the role of contemporary art in social movements. Through her work, Summer seeks to amplify the voices and memories of ordinary people and local communities to diversify the historical narrative.
